DESCRIPTION
In every spearmint tea lies a bit of peppermint. Why? Ages ago spearmint and water mint created a natural hybrid, bringing us peppermint. Today’s spearmint tea is naturally sweet, without being sugary, and has calming, mellow undertones, unlike its more spirited offspring…peppermint. To make spearmint tea just pour one cup of boiling water over one True Treats teabag or one to two teaspoons of spearmint tea in your mug. Let steep for five minutes, longer for stronger flavor.
Spearmint has long been used as a calming agent, diuretic, and treatment for digestive disorders. The leaf is high in vitamins A and C. A Mediterranean native, spearmint was considered an herb of hospitality. Herbalist John Gerard wrote in 1568 that the smell of "Spere Mynte rejoiceth the heart of man" A few hundred years later, the Revolutionaries enjoyed the tax-free spearmint tea which became one of America’s top 50 cash crops.
