DESCRIPTION

RC Cola is a classic soda—created in 1905 when old-fashioned sodas were on the rise in the sweets and treats arenas. RC Cola was different…it was a smooth cola, less aggressive than other soft drinks, with less of the acid aftertaste and remains so today. RC Cola’s light carbonation makes it an even distinct with a true old-time feel. Originally created in Georgia, RC Cola remains an Appalachian favorite and Southern soda classic, often enjoyed the traditional way with peanuts dropped in the glass. Want to make the experience complete? Add a Moon Pie and another Appalachian candy classic—potato candy—for a true historic treat. Or go all-out with our Appalachian Holiday Kit that contains them all in one place - perfect for picnics, snacks, and all-around all-purpose treat.

Historical Insights

RC Cola was created in 1905 by Georgia pharmacist Claud A. Hatcher following the popularity of other old-fashioned sodas and vintage soft drink. His first venture was Royal Crown Ginger Ale followed Chero-Cola in 1910. This early classic cola entered the growing world of American soda brands. After trademark disputes, the company reemerged in 1928 as Royal Crown
Cola—the RC Cola we still know and love.

RC Cola, while never quite the blockbuster of other
soft drinks, found a cola history as one of the first to sell soda in a can in the 1930s. In 1958, the company introduced Diet Rite, the nation’s first diet and caffeine-free cola, helping launch a range of low-sugar soft drinks. By the mid-20th century, RC found its place as the true retro soda, its image further
improved by its “underdog” status, especially across the American South.

In true retro style, it’s paired with another Southern classic – Moon Pies—and is enjoyed with peanuts…dropped into the glass!
