Beeman’s Gum is a truly old-fashioned delight and has been since the late 1800s and has been since the late 1800s. The secret of its success comes down to so many things: the texture, which is traditionally soft, creating a pleasant chewing experience. The wintergreen flavor is likewise pleasant, made all the better as wintergreen is hard to find these days. And, as with many chewing gums, Beeman’s does everything from freshening the breath to increasing saliva which can reduce tooth decay.

The Sweet Legacy of Beeman’s Gum: A Timeless Classic
The popular Beeman’s gum was invented in the late 1800s by Dr. Edward E. Beeman, an Ohio- based physician and researcher, who discovered that pepsin, derived from the stomach of hogs, could aid digestion. He began selling pepsin powder, but sales were not what he’d hoped. So, Nellie Horton, his bookkeeper or local shopkeeper, depending on who you ask, suggested that he make a delicious tasting pepsin chewing gum to increase sales. Some say she was chewing gum at the time.
