No mere lollipop, Astro Pops were made by two rocket scientists who quit the space program in 1963 to make a three-color, rocket-shaped lollipop. The bottom of the pop is red, representing the fire when the rocket takes off. The middle is green, representing the space junk, and the top is yellow, representing, of course, the capsule that travels through space. Their timing was great! The space race was on. Kids were excited. And Astro Pops took off by the millions.
