DESCRIPTION
For kids who love to read – and those who don’t…and grown-ups, too! An exciting, edible foray into the world of Alice in Wonderland. This plot of these classic hinges on food, making the characters grow, shrink, fight or have a good laugh. And MORE! Each box contains:
- A selection of the sweets and treats enjoyed by Alice throughout the original book from comfits that were in her pocket to a tasty drink (lemonade with real lemon crystals) in a container with the sign “Drink Me.”
- A keepsake card with an original book cover on the front and a description of when in the book where Alice enjoyed these treats.
- A copy of the original Alice in Wonderland to enjoy and, even, follow along.
The Alice in Wonderland lit box was created by True Treats’ founder Susan Benjamin, a scholarly researcher of candy and sweets, a former professor of literature and writing, and author of numerous works of fiction.

'At any rate I'll never go THERE again!' said Alice as she picked her way through the wood. 'It's the stupidest tea–party I ever was at in all my life!' – “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.”
All About The Mad Tea Party in Lewis Carroll’s book, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”
The characters in Lewis Carroll’s Mad Tea Party enjoyed tea and toast with butter. While teas consisted of light fare, guests may have also enjoyed:
- Treacle. Alice mentioned but did not eat treacle, a sweet much like American molasses, which is made into taffy aka “pulls.”
- Tea. While many guests drank black tea, others enjoyed relaxing teas such as chamomile.
- Honey. Typically in cubes, used to sweeten the tea, at your discretion.
- Lemonade. This refreshing drink was enjoyed in addition to tea – or even instead of tea.
- Bon-Bons. These candies may have been chocolate, peppermints, or even chews. Always special!
- Mixed nuts. Lightly salted, any variety would do.
- Baked goods. Cookies, cakes, biscuits: The possibilities are practically limitless.
To be truly loyal to the original: dispense with adherence to all things polite, and be perfectly frank and rude, if you feel like it. Then, afterward, say you’re sorry.
DON’T STRESS: Why not get a True Treats® Mad Party Tea Set, perfect for five…Comes with tea, biscuits, shortbread cookies, molasses sweets, lemonade mix (all natural), cut sugar, and chocolate. Plus Mad Tea Party cards as a memento for your guests. Want to be TOTALLY traditional? We’ll send you Tea Party invitation postcards you can mail. Old World. Classy!

True Treats is the only historically accurate candy store in the world, bringing the past to life through researched sweets, teas, syrups, and more. Every product is rooted in history, telling the story of how people from all walks of life enjoyed treats through time. Leading this effort is Susan, a nationally recognized candy historian, researcher, and author who appears regularly on TV, radio, and in major publications. With over 40 years of experience, she has written ten books and founded True Treats to share the fascinating history of candy in a fun and delicious way. Susan’s work uncovers the surprising origins of America’s favorite sweets, from ancient uses of sugar to the candies of the 1900s. Through True Treats, Susan makes history an interactive experience, allowing customers to taste the past while learning the stories behind every bite.
Just got it today and there was no copy of the book to read as described. A little disappointed but otherwise pleased.
