DESCRIPTION
Whether you love licorice as much as we do…or don’t love it at all… licorice can make an excellent tea. It’s 50-times sweeter than sugar, but not with the subtle, overly sweet taste of many sweeteners today. It blends well with other teas, such orange peel, black or green tea, sarsaparilla, mint and other botanicals.
Licorice tea has long been admired for its medicinal properties in ancient Chinese medicine. Among its many benefits: relieve stress, improve the respiratory system, relieve stomach distress and more. In North America of the 1700s, the medicinal licorice was considered a precious herb.
For a strong tea add one-fourth cup of licorice root to a medium pot of boiling water. Simmer for at least 10 minutes then drain out the root. OR: Add a teaspoon or two of licorice root to a cup of hot water. Let it sit for around 5 minutes or longer, to taste.
Licorice isn’t right for everyone, so check in with your doctor if you have doubts or concerns.
