DESCRIPTION

Handmade! Using an old-time recipe! Candy bars were invented in 1847, England, but became the silky-smooth chocolate treats we enjoy today. And what could be better than these milk chocolate bars with almonds. They’re handmade from the moment the chocolate is melted down, the almond chips mixed into the warm chocolate, to the final stages of cooling…using an original turn-of-century recipe! The taste is pure milk chocolate with the crunch and flavor of almonds, none of the waxiness typical of commercial brands. Even the molds are traditional: denser and more compact than flat bars, creating an amazing mouth feel driven from the past. Comes with two bars with a keepsake tag telling the story of the candy on one side with a period image on the other.

Historical Insights

In 1847, in England, Joseph Fry, a British chocolatier, is said to have invented the first chocolate bar… although
other iterations likely existed at the time. When Fry molding a chocolate paste into solid bars, he created a new use for chocolate: a fun food that would later become America’s most loved candy flavor. Another invention moved the
chocolate world ahead. That happened in 1879 when Rodolphe Lindt, now best known for the Lindt chocolate company, created another important device: the
conching machine (so called because the earliest machines resembled a conch shell). While so-called eating chocolate had been gritty and rough, Lindt churned
the paste made from cacao seeds into a smooth blend perfect for rich, creamy chocolate bars. Finally, years later, Milton Hershey made his contribution, dropping an almond into the candy bar. Chocolate bars may have been fun food but, as time went on, became critical to survival of explorers, adventurers, and, above all, the military.
