DESCRIPTION

Four chocolate bars – a deliciously edible timeline of the chocolate bar. Let your taste buds tell the story of chocolate bars in this four-piece stack. Starts with dark chocolate, the first flavored candy bar made around 1847 in England. Back then, the chocolate was gritty, but ours (circa 1879) are smooth and chocolatey. Next came milk chocolate (1875), followed by chocolate with almonds (late 1800s). To top it off is white chocolate, made popular by Nestle, which teetered into existence in the early 1900s. Each selection is Handmade! Using an old-time recipe from the moment the chocolate is melted down to the final stages of cooling. The taste is pure, the texture smooth without the waxiness typical of commercial brands. Comes with four bars with a keepsake tag telling the story of the candy on one side with a period image on the other.

Discover the Art of the Handmade Chocolate Four-Flavor Stack

In 1847, in England, Joseph Fry, a British chocolatier, is said to have invented the first chocolate bar… although other iterations likely existed at the time. When Fry molding a chocolate paste into solid bars, he created a new use for chocolate: a fun food that would later become America’s most loved candy flavor. Another invention moved the chocolate world ahead. That happened in 1879 when Rodolphe Lindt, now best known for the Lindt chocolate company, created another important device: the conching machine (so called because the earliest machines resembled a conch shell). While so-called eating chocolate had been gritty and rough, Lindt churned the paste made from cacao seeds into a smooth blend perfect for rich, creamy chocolate bars. Finally, years later, Milton Hershey made his contribution, dropping an almond into the candy bar. Chocolate bars may have been fun food but, as time went on, became critical to survival of explorers, adventurers, and, above all, the military. Want to know more? Find out here!
