DESCRIPTION

A classic!! The unforgettable American born and raised Twinkie, a traditional treat first introduced in 1930 by the Continental Baking Company. Each Twinkie is a very spongy sponge cake stuffed with vanilla flavored cream. Unlike stand-alone Twinkies, ours are coated in chocolate, using a traditional chocolate recipe that has been in the family for three generations! As you can imagine they are hand-dipped and usually shipped shortly after they’re made. Whether enjoyed as a box lunch treat, an addition to a child’s party, or a companion to a glass of milk, Chocolate Covered Twinkies are an enduring addition to the Hostess Company line-up, the new maker of Twinkies in the 1950s.

Historical Insights

Twinkies were invented in 1930 in Illionis, but, so rumor had it, was really invented in 1869 nin Wyoming. Whatever. Here’s what really happened. The sponge cake originated in the 1700s – it was harder than today’s version but grew softer and more fanciful during the 1800s. No doubt legends of sponge cake recipes – mostly passed on by word-of-mouth existed through North America. The Twinkie found its place…and notoriety, in the Hostess Corporate World. Originally, the cream filing was banana but, due to shortages during WW2, vanilla was used instead. Definitely, Twinkie’s rose to stardom in the movie “Ghost Busters.”
