A Bit of History
While on his honeymoon in the 1870s, pharmacist Charles Hines tasted Native American root tea. Over the years, he turned the beverage into a health drink he called “root beer,” first as a mix requiring yeast and other ingredients, then as a syrup, and, eventually, as a soda. Hires’ root beer candy followed in the early 1900s.
