Ancient Medicines – Botanical Curatives

While today, we delight in tea for its taste and refreshment, many botanical teas served a different purpose. When life was difficult, when stress prevailed, people through the ages have turned to botanical teas to bring comfort to their hearts. The Ancient Egyptians and Romans highly valued chamomile and lavender as restorative cure-alls, bringing relaxation, enabling sleep and sweet dreams. Marshmallow root was thought to sooth the stomach and relax the body while the delicious and medicinal olive leaf brought peace.

Botanical Teas in the Americas

Half a world away, among many botanical teas, Iroquois used the mild tasting white oak bark to treat loneliness from a broken heart and Aztecs prized marigolds for magical, religious, and medicinal purposes.

Contents may vary according to availability, but the historic use for comfort will remain.

How make comfort teas

Boil water and add a teaspoon or two to taste. Steep for three to five minutes. Enjoy with honey, sugar, milk, or whatever comforts you and offers a promise of lightness ahead. Also an excellent blend with black, green or botanical teas.
