Our All-American Caramels are in the same style as when they were first made in the late 1800s: creamy, smooth, with a lingering finish. How did caramels begin? They emerged from the process of caramelizing sugar, the key to such delights as pralines. As time went on, people added caramel to everything from chocolates to caramel-covered marshmallows - AKA caramel biscuits. By the 1930s s caramel appeared in candy bars, Sugar Daddy lollipops, Sugar Babies, Cream Caramels...not to mention ice cream toppings. America was hooked on caramel! Today, caramel is still one of the nation’s favorite styles of candy - second only to chocolate!
