Biblical St. John’s Bread – Carob Pods

$4.47

What is Carob?

The majestic evergreen carob tree can grow to 50 feet tall and live for 100 years. It is draped with long, pleasant tasting pods. Unlike the cacao bean with its edible interior and exterior, only the outer shell of the carob is edible, not the hard inner seeds.

What’s a “Nib” Anyway?

The carob nib is composed of the ground up pieces of the hard shell of the pod. Carob nibs have a crunchy texture with an earthy chocolate flavor. Perfect as a topping for ice cream or cereal, added to smoothies, or as an ingredient in baked goods. Carob can also add a chocolatey flavor to botanicals teas – like our exclusive Holiday Every Day Tea Blend, where it’s paired with biblical spearmint and honey.

St. John’s Bread – Carob’s Biblical History

Rich in vitamins and minerals, the carob was eaten by the ancient peoples and fed to their livestock. Many believe carob is “St. John’s Bread” – the food St. John the Baptist ate in the desert. Use the pod for tea, cooking, or enjoy as-is. Do not eat the seeds, though! They’re not digestible and hard as rocks. Comes with two pods.
