Traditional Cinnamon Hot Tamales
Deliciously spicy, the Hot Tamale is one of the nation’s favorite cinnamon candies. If you haven’t tried them, you’ll quickly learn why. If you have, you’ll appreciate all 6 oz of Hot Tamales in a heat-sealed bag with the history on the label.
A Bit of History
The Hot Tamale was made in 1950 by the Just Born company and one of the many candies that were gums coated with sugar: think the 1800s creation known as the jelly bean. The actual Tamale originated thousands of years ago with the Aztecs and became a popular food amidst African Americans in the South in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It reached popular culture in such songs as “They’re Red Hot” by Robert Johnson (see blog) and, later, in the Hot Tamale candy.
