Popcorn, molasses, and peanuts were a popular treat in the late 1800s. And – at that time, most candy-makers were selling candy that doubled as toys or contained toys. No matter, William Rueckheim, a German immigrant, created his version called “Cracker Jacks” which he and his brother Louis, introduced at the Chicago Worlds Fair of 1893. And a star was born! So, how did Cracker Jacks end up in the 1908 song “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”? The words “Cracker Jacks” matched the other lyrics.
