A Bit of History

Made by Charles Howard, a 1940s candy, very fragrant and delicious and surprisingly a favorite among men.

Candy got its start as medicine, including the so-called soft paste style. The first soft paste medicine to transform into candy was the Chase Lozenge, now known as the NECCO wafer, made by Oliver Chase in 1847. What followed was a variety of soft paste candies – the Conversation Hearts, made by Chase’s brother, Daniel, and the Canada Mint, to name a few.
