Canada Mints Were a Penny Candy… But What is Penny Candy?

Retro penny candy came to life in the mid-1800s and has been around ever since. For decades, and generations, these beloved vintage sweets were sold for a penny a piece, sometimes less. The earliest penny candies were NECCO Wafers (1847), candy sticks (1837) and pulled creams (mid 1800s).

Old Time Canada Mints, Still Tasty As Ever!

These tasty vintage mints got their start in Canada in the late 1800s, and crossed the border to the U.S.  in 1908. For decades people enjoyed them for their taste and to ease stomach aches. Today, they are made by the New England Confectionery Candy Company, started in 1847 by a candy great—Oliver Chase. 4 oz in a heat-sealed bag with the history on the label.
