What do we mean by “congratulations”?  It all started in the 1400s with the Latin word “congratulationem” which means “wish joy,” “show joy”, and even “give thanks” “together”. In the late 1880s, the word shrunk to “congratulations” and a short time later “congratters”. These days we use “congrats” or even “grats.”

So, with great joy we proclaim Congratulationem, Congratulations, Congratters, Congrats, and Grats TO YOU!!
