African American Sweets
The African American’s connection to North American sweets and sugars is profound. The reason for enslavement was cane sugar and the machinery central to sugar production was developed by an African American engineer mid-1800s. Their efforts made everything from medicines to Grandma’s sour balls possible – all rooted in stories of strength and survival against incredible odds.
